The production team built Harleys by hand from the original blueprints

The Production team had a challenge when helping to tell Harley’s History. They built working bikes from scratch based on Bill Harleys’ original drawings. “Michiel Huisman who plays Walter Davidson commented,” It was one of the coolest and best parts of this shoot to ride these amazing bikes.”

Weird Things That Are Lost or Left Behind at the Annual Sturgis Rally

There are many weird things that are lost or left behind at the Annual Sturgis Rally each year, either intentionally or by accident if you are one of these people AMERiders can help you replace these some of these items. You may be thinking that it just may be small things like bandannas, lighters, and maybe a jacket or other items that get lost or left at Sturgis, well that is just not true. Each August for the past 74 years, save for a couple during World War II, bikers from around the globe have motored to the mecca of motorcycling – the Sturgis motorcycle rally in the Black Hills.

These rally goers tour the scenic highways, stop at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, cruise past the free-roaming herds of bison in Custer State Park, and speed by the towering waterfalls of Spearfish Canyon. At night, rally-goers test the taps at many a Sturgis saloon and sway to the tunes of top-name musical acts at several entertainment venues, and leave a trail of items in their wake. The Buffalo Chip Saloon even has posted some of the weirdest things that have been left behind. Here are just a few items of what they have listed before.

Weird and Wonderful things left behind at Sturgis

Some of these things are typical things you would find left behind after a rally others well you have to wonder what the heck were they thinking? Maybe I just don’t want to pack it up, or I’ll buy a new one when I get home.

Air Mattresses
Tents
Cell Phones
1 tube of Super Poligrip (1 report of missing teeth/0 teeth found)
Tarps
Propane grills
Wallets
Harley Davidson’s – How can you just leave your Harley at a Rally?
Id’s and credit/debit cards

These the Chip also had pictures of, and we thought it would be fun to post them here for reference as to the weird things that can get left.

Left Behind
So many Keys!!!

Tons of keys — now you would think that if you just drove your motorcycle to the rally all you would have is your bike keys. How do you start your bike without its keys, or the car or motorhome for that matter?

Left Behind
A bottle of STURGIZZ??

A bottle of STURGIZZ?? — Ok, we don’t know what this is and the Chip didn’t elaborate either. However, if you are gonna name it, don’t leave it behind lol. On the other hand, We had ideas on what it might be but we will leave that to your imagination.

 Left Behind
Apartment furniture

Apartment furniture — We guess that Sturgis is as good a place as any to build your home. However, what we would like to know is where are the 4 walls, floor, and ceiling? Not to mention the plumbing and lighting that you would need as well. If it is to be an outdoor apartment still there are items missing you might need.

This item just overwhelmed us as it did the Buffalo Chip hence their comment. “IDK WTF this is”
Left Behind
They didn’t know what this was and were quite shocked by it, but stated if it went unclaimed, it would be sold to the highest bidder.

Sturgis May Be Over but There Are 354 Days Till the 77th Sturgis Rally

This year’s Sturgis Rally may be over but there are 354 days till the 77th Sturgis Rally, not like we are counting. AMERiders hopes that everyone that went had an awesome time and arrived back home safely and in one piece. It is time to go back to our normal lives, wait we are normal? Yeah, we know normal is just a saying and most motorcycle riders are far from normal. But who are we kidding anyone that has been to Sturgis once, counts the days till the next Sturgis Rally Starts.

If you are wondering exactly when the next Sturgis Rally is going to be so you can plan ahead then you can check the Sturgis Website for Future Dates and the 77th Sturgis Rally dates are going to be from August 7-13, 2017. This past week during the 76th Rally the logo for next year was unveiled.  Many people gathered around the east photo tower to see the new logo look for next year. The logo is designed by Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Inc. and is the only official logo for the Rally each year. The new logo gives vendors plenty of time to get merchandise ready for the 77th.

2016 Safest Rally Year So Far
77th Sturgis Rally
76th Annual Sturgis Rally Safest Year So Far

This year’s rally was known as one of the safer ones as there were fewer deaths and total accidents than there were in 2015. Last year, a record 15 people were killed on area roads during the 75th-anniversary rally. This year’s 3 deaths is lower than the previous record of 4, in both 2011 and 2014. Wildlife collisions were a major issue this year, although only one fatality was related to them.

Wildlife is not the only reason for accidents either, geography also plays a part in the deaths as the Black Hills and other areas are challenging rides. Age and alcohol have also been factors as Sturgis bikers tend to be middle-aged or older, and of course, alcohol is part of the Sturgis experience most will say. Combining riding with knocking back a few beers or bourbons is also a recipe for disaster. However, the most common element among the fatal wrecks is that about three-quarters of the fatal wrecks involved a rider without a helmet.

77th Sturgis Rally will be here before you know it

Although this year’s rally has ended next year’s rally is just around the corner. Did we mention it’s 354 days away? Not like we are counting, awe who are we kidding we are definitely counting. As you get back into the groove we hope that you all made it home safe and sound and if you have any great pictures and stories don’t hesitate to let us know by sending them to the address below. We are looking forward to the 77th Sturgis Rally and hope to see you there.

We always warn to be careful when riding!
2016 Annual Sturgis Rally
watch for wildlife

AMERiders always warns to be careful when you are riding, and at the 2016 Annual Sturgis Rally, it proves to be more so.  According to a news site, “This year’s Sturgis Rally recorded its first death Tuesday afternoon. At this time last year, nine motorcyclists had died in crashes. Bike versus wildlife crashes is a dangerous trend this year, causing injuries from minor to serious but not life-threatening.Tuesday alone, three bikers hit deer in different incidents. A deer was also the cause of bike crash Monday. It isn’t just deer bikers have to avoid. A biker from New Mexico hit a sheep Tuesday when a flock wandered onto U.S. Highway 212 near Nisland,SD.”

So please pay more careful attention while riding if you are at Sturgis, and at any other bike rallies like this that you may attend.

Last but certainly not least if you would like to possibly win some collectibles from this year’s rally or even a trip to next year’s rally Sturgis has a link here for you to click and enter. We wish you luck.

76th Annual Sturgis Rally Has a New Full Throttle Saloon!

AMERiders is excited to announce that at this year’s rally there will be a “New Full Throttle Saloon” in its brand new location, this coming after the tragic fire that caused the iconic bar to burn down last year. With the 76th Annual Sturgis Rally just a few days away this is exciting news for rally goers and Full Throttle fans.

Out of tragedy comes something new
New Full Throttle Saloon
Full Throttle Saloon Fire in 2015

When the iconic bar burned down last year the community rallied behind Ballard, his wife Angie and business partner and Jackyl lead singer Jesse James Dupree and urged them to rebuild. Some people that are upset that it was not rebuilt at its old site, however, Garner, national sales representative for Full Throttle S’loonshine & Jesse James Bourbon said “there was a very good reason for the move. It was landlocked; there was no room to grow.”  Hence the new location.

The former saloon was located on the 38 acres. However, just five miles down the road The New Full Throttle Saloon location is on 50, with another 500 acres for camping. Dupree said the new location will house three times as many vendors, the state’s largest stage, and an Olympic-size pool.

Pop in and have a drink or get merchandise, and – of course – take pictures of what once stood as the World’s Largest Biker Bar.

While owner Michael Ballard is building a new Full Throttle Saloon on site at the Pappy Hoel Campground, about 6 miles north of Sturgis, many people are still stopping to take a look at the original location, which was destroyed by fire last year but remains open to the public.

Pappy Hoel Campground
 New Full Throttle Saloon
Pappy Hoel Campground

The new facility will be named the Pappy Hoel Campground and Ballard explained the significance behind the name. “Pappy Hoel is the man who actually founded the Sturgis Rally 76 years ago,” he said. “He actually owned an Indian motorcycle dealership here in Sturgis and he started flat track racing back in 1938. And he started a ride once a year through the Black Hills to Mount Rushmore. So in honor of the guy that started the event, we decided to name the campground the Pappy Hoel Campground. The is located on the main property, so “The Full Throttle Presents the Pappy Hoel Campground.”

Fundraising and Donations
New Full Throttle Saloon
Barrel of Full Throttle Trimble Tennessee Whiskey

As a fundraiser to aid in building back the bar, Ballard started a program similar to the Brick Project in Sturgis. However, Full Throttle’s is a steel plate, to which you can get your name, the name of the town you’re from, CNC’d out of steel and it actually gets welded to the side of the bar. They sold many that will be up this year for the rally. They’ll have a booth set up that Sturgis goers can buy them and  can actually watch them CNC your name out of it and watch them weld it onto the bar.   For those that love whiskey and want to donate Your can get your own Barrel of Full Throttle Trimble Tennessee Whiskey for just $5000 check out the information on that here.

Shade Away When Riding! Your Eyes Are Important So Protect Them!

Tips to help choose the best sunglasses for your ride.

Your Eyes Are Important So Protect Them! So why not Shade Away When Riding, most assume that there isn’t much to think about when they pick out a new pair of sunglasses, that is is just not true. There are many things that should be considered when picking out a new pair of sunglasses for yourself. We at AMERiders have come up with a few tips to help choose the best sunglasses for your ride.

Not just a Fashion accessory
Shade Away
Protect those precious peepers while riding

It should not be forgotten that glasses are more than just a fashion accessory they are a pair of protection gear for your eyes. Not many people know that your eyes can also be burned by the sun’s rays just like your skin can. Your corneas, lenses, and retinas are all vulnerable to overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. These invisible rays can harm your eyes if they are unprotected and with long-term exposure can lead to cataracts, skin cancer around the eyelids, macular degeneration, and other debilitating conditions.UV-blocking sunglasses are a must when you’re riding in the daylight to protect your precious peepers.

Some things to consider

When looking to purchase a new pair of protective eyewear ensure you search for a label that lets you know that they have UV block as well as how much they will reflect. Only consider glasses that block out 99 to 100 percent of harmful rays. This includes UV-A and the more harmful UV-B as well, believe it or not, tinted glasses with no UV protection can cause more harm than good. This is simply because the eye is attempting to compensate for the less light coming into the eye by opening the pupil a bit wider. It is important to make sure to cover your entire eye area including your eyelids as well. It is important to remember that tinted contact lenses do nothing in protecting your eyes from the sun.

Another thing to consider is the tint of your lenses, or that you may need. The answer is simple, it just depends. There are different tints to filter different wavelengths of light away from your eyes. Some enhance or distort, and other affect the contrast.

What tints do what.

Below is a basic list that highlights how the different tints work:

Shade Away
ARIZONA BIKER SUNGLASSES YELLOW LENSES

Green — Allows true color perception and good contrast in bright light; reduces eyestrain in bright light.
Gray — Allows true color perception; does not enhance contrast; good for cycling or running.
Brown — Good in the hazy sun; enhances contrast; good for high glare environments.
Amber — Brightens cloudy, hazy, or foggy skies; excellent for contrast; minimizes eyestrain; distorts color (images look yellow-orange).
Yellow — Improves contrast and depth perception in low light; good for overcast days.
Red — Excellent depth perception in low light; contrast objects against blue or green backgrounds.

Safety Glasses won’t shatter into your eye as conventional eyewear might
Safety vs Conventional glass

When riding safety glasses really are the best to purchase. Conventional glasses may protect your eyes from glare but they do a poor job of protecting your eyes from objects that are flying from dust, rocks, and insects. It is highly unlikely that an object will crack or dislodge a lens, however, conventional lenses may crack or dislodge. This can be harmful to the eyes especially if shards of glass and plastic shatter back into the eyes, safety glass may shatter but it won’t shatter back into the eyes.

Shade Away
This is what the UV and other safety stickers will look like

Some safety glasses can also have shields to help reduce the risk of objects reaching your eye from the top, bottom or even sides. Conventional sunglasses do not have this Remember not all tinted lenses provide the UV protection always look for the UV label.

Last but not least

In conclusion here are some of our final tips for choosing some great sunglasses.

  • Check for the Z87.1 (safety glass) designation. We have some sunglasses in our eyewear section such as our AMBER BIKER SUNGLASSES
  • The label should indicate 99 or 100 percent UV protection . You will find that almost all of our glasses have this protection.
  • Make sure the glasses are lightweight and adjustable. We have many pairs of glasses that are very lightweight and many goggles that are adjustable
  • Look for sunglasses that are close-fitting to prevent UV rays from filtering in. Check our features for which ones are and aren’t UV labeled.
  • Look for larger lenses or wraparound styles to prevent light and other harmful substances from entering the eye (we have all types of styles to fit your lifestyle)
  • Don’t be misguided by price — higher-priced safety sunglasses usually reflect fashion, not level of protection (our prices are very affordable)
  • Understand that dark-colored sunglasses don’t necessarily provide better protection because the UV protection coating applied to the lens is clear.
Polarized are not good for motorcyclists!

A final note of caution involves polarized lenses. We know polarized lenses are supposed to reduce glare and be good for riding, but we found a potentially dangerous situation that can arise when using them. A lot of bikes have windshields, instrument panels and helmet face shields made from Lexan plastic. When certain conditions, such as when the sun is at the right angle and if you’re wearing polarized sunglasses your windshield, instrument panel or face shield may suddenly and without warning can turn totally black, or explode in a rainbow spectrum of bright colors — either of which most certain cause a blinding effect. This usually happens at the worst possible time, and can carry a potentially deadly consequence. With that in mind, We do not recommend polarized lenses for motorcycle use.

Shade AwayOne thing we would like to remind you about is that Sturgis is right around the corner, please be safe when taking your trip. We would love to see all of our brothers and sisters make it back home in one piece. If you need any extra protection or gear don’t hesitate to check out our affordable prices.
