Daytona Bike Week 2022 Started Today and Is in Full Swing, and as usual, we here at AMERiders give you the information about the activities that will be going on next week. This year not only do the hotel owners expect a big boost from the 10-day event but it could potentially have a historic 52nd Supercross at Daytona, and Buell is set to unveil their Baja DR Dirt Bike.
But what is Daytona Bike Week it is the largest motorcycle rally in the world. With more than 500,000 fans, hundreds of vendors, and thousands of bike enthusiasts, Daytona Bike Week is the ultimate must-see event. The week-long event features concerts, races, and other events to keep bikers entertained. It has been going strong since 1937 when it was held in Daytona Beach, Florida. The festivities were moved to Daytona International Speedway in 1954 and have grown every year since.
Why are the hotels expecting higher numbers?

For area hoteliers, visitor interest in this year’s 81st annual edition of Bike Week – the 10-day event that runs March 4-13 in Daytona Beach and throughout Volusia County – also started early and is higher than it has been for some time, according to many hotel managers.
“All of our 533 rooms in our Daytona Beach area hotels are expecting to be sold-out through the 10-day event with appropriately higher rates,” said Manoj Bhoola, president and CEO of Ormond Beach-based Elite Hospitality Inc.
After Bike Week unfolded under the shadow of uncertainties tied to the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years, reservations for the 2022 edition started coming in early this year, Bhoola said.
“Unlike last year, we had reservations start to come in two to three months in advance,” he said. “With people trying to get back to the new normal, enthusiasm around the outdoor events like this one is extremely high. We are seeing that the majority of our customers are from other states than Florida.”
52nd Daytona Supercross
Saturday’s race kicks off the 81st Daytona Bike Week and could be a history-maker. Defending champion Eli Tomac will be going for his sixth Daytona Supercross win, which would vault him ahead of Carmichael for most all-time.
“It’s such a different race track than our typical supercross event, so it’s a track where it’s a love-hate relationship,” Tomac said. “For me, I love it. I look forward to it every single year. It never gets old.”
Carmichael, who designs the Daytona course, said he expects riders to once again be challenged this year.
“We have special features this year with the sand section, the wall jump, and the over and under,” he added. “The over and under bridge opens up things, and the lanes are pretty long and will allow riders to get alongside of each other. That will open up more opportunities for them to make passes. I am excited how it turned out.”
Buell Baja DR Dirt Bike Unveiling
With Daytona Bike Week 2022 as the backdrop, Buell Motorcycle will unveil a test prototype intended to demonstrate a wider-range focus of the brand known for high-horsepower sportbikes like the Hammerhead 1190.
Fans will have the opportunity to see the 2023 Baja DR, or “Dune Racer,” dirt bike, an off-road motorcycle building upon the 1190 HCR hill climb racer. The 1190 HCR was Buell’s first-ever dirt-focused motorcycle and won the 2020 AMA Hillclimb National Championship with two-time titleholder Logan Cipala at the controls.
The Grand Rapids, Michigan-based business claims the Baja DR will be the “world’s fastest production dirt bike, built right here in America.”
“This is a pivotal moment for American motorcycles and really puts Buell on the map,” Buell Motorcycle Company CEO Bill Melvin says. “We are on track to build the world’s fastest and solely American-built production off-road bike.
“Less than 1 percent of the world is covered by pavement. The Buell Baja DR is designed to dominate the other 99.7 percent. It will give riders the freedom to go anywhere in the world, faster and with more power, harnessing our 1190 engine. The Buell Baja DR is a beast, elevating the brand to even greater heights, and will bring passion back for American-built motorcycles.”
Buell also claims the Dune Racer will be the “world’s fastest production dirt bike.”
