Gear up, Strap in and Jump On! A Road Trip Is in Order!

Gear up your bike, Strap into your favorite protective gear and Jump On your bike! It’s warm and a Road Trip Is in Order! At AMERiders.com, we say let’s take a ride to somewhere fun, and spectacular!  Vacations and Road Trips are always fun, but when you hop on a motorcycle it just amps up the fun dial even more. We decided since we recently showed you new bikes that are coming out like the Harley-Davidson 2016 Models, the Indian Springfield, and Indian Darkhorse plus we’ve given you tips on how to gear up for riding this summer, as well as Packing for Road Trips. We would give you some ideas on where to go for your vacations on your motorcycle this summer.

Road Trip
Harley-Davidson Museum

So the first place we would like to suggest is the birthplace of Harley-Davidson itself Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Lots of things to see and do that a motorcycle enthusiast will love. Such as the Harley-Davidson Museum which is newly opened. During the summer, it is very easy to find things to do along the lake and the city has many cultural events to attend as well. Milwaukee is also known for the world-famous Milwaukee Mile Speedway where the annual Milwaukee Rally is held late July.

Road Trip
Winter Park Colorado

Another great place to go take your Road Trip is Colorado.  Located in Colorado’s Northern Rockies, Winter Park is a popular winter destination drawing visitors to its large ski hill, however, not only is Winter Park a popular winter destination, but it also draws visitors during the summer with its Zephyr Mountain Express Chairlift. Which  takes sightseers and mountain bikers to the summit of Winter Park Mountain, for a stunning view of the Continental Divide. Winter Park is also known for the Salute to American Veterans Rally, formerly held in Cripple Creek. A POW/MIA rally, the Salute to American Veterans Rally is also one of the best Colorado motorcycle rallies. Held in August, the ride to the new home of the POW/MIA Salute in Winter Park takes you and your bike through the beautiful Colorado Rockies, culminating with a huge POW/MIA parade, a POW/MIA Recognition Ride, motorcycle rodeo, a ride in bike show, live music, poker run, wet T-shirt contest, and a military fighter plane flyover.

Road Trip
Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

Of course, there is also the Black Hills of South Dakota for Sturgis one of the world’s oldest, largest and greatest rallies, held each year in August. This year it is being held from the 8th to the 14th for its 76th annual rally. Besides the unique combination of unique scenery of surrounding granite peaks and creek-carved canyons, with outstanding touring roads ribboning out across the landscape, and adding in the music and non-stop party action on famous Sturgis Main Street. Sturgis offers a dream Road Trip or vacation for any biker.

Road Trip
HISTORIC ROUTE 66

These are just a few of the great places that you can go when taking a Road Trip this summer. There is also the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum in Ohio, and of course don’t forget HISTORIC ROUTE 66 also as it can be an experience of a lifetime for travelers, adventurers, desperados and dreamers. Officially Route 66 no longer exists, however, a great deal of it remains to be driven and enjoyed.

We hope this gives you some idea of a few places to ride this summer. There are more to be found all over the net, and by even asking some of your brothers and sisters of some wonderful, exciting, and beautiful places they may have ridden. Don’t hesitate to ask around when planning a trip you never know what you may find.

Road TripAMERiders would like to wish all our brothers and sisters a safe and happy Memorial Day. Please remember that this weekend is not about BBQ’s and long rides. It is about remembering those that gave their lives in service to our country.

Share the Road and Be Aware of Everyone and Everything!

Since May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month there is an appeal by several organizations including the AMA, to share the road with each other and to be extra aware of everyone and everything around them, and we at AMERiders want to encourage this as well. Making yourself more visible to other drivers is important so that they not only see you but notice you as well (and yes, these are two different things).

AMERiders wanted to put this blog post out not only to our brothers and sisters but to our friendly drivers that follow us as well. It is important for EVERYONE to look out for each other as what some drivers may not realize is what can be a small crash to them can be life threatening to a motorcyclist. It is very dangerous for a motorcyclist to not pay attention to their surroundings as oil, pedestrians, and even a stray animal can be fatal to them. So please pay careful attention when riding and driving and share the road.

share the road
Can you see the rider

During the winter months, drivers don’t see motorcycles as much as they do during spring and summer months, and without seeing us on a daily basis, it is easy for drivers to forget about those of us on two wheels motorized or not.

share the road
Watch your mirrors

It is important to check mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes and, especially, to watch for motorcyclists, bike riders, and even pedestrians. As they are not as easy to see as other larger vehicles are. As AMA president and CEO Rob Dingman, states “The warmer weather in May brings out the riders who have been unable to ride all winter, so it presents an excellent opportunity for us to educate the non-riding public about the safety issues that affect motorcyclists every time we roll out of our driveways or onto a trail.”

share the road
Remember to Share the road

Drivers can avoid a crash with a motorcycle by and looking twice to spot motorcycles in traffic, and even more carefully at intersections, respecting a motorcyclists’ riding space by not following too closely, Which should not be done with any vehicle anyway. Not all bikers are bad drivers which some drivers have a preconceived notion about, we don’t all race and go in between traffic and weave around, in reality, a lot of us are safe motorcycle riders.

share the road
Share the road with everyone

Even though May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month it is important to share the road with everyone, and everything that does not have 4 or more wheels to it. It is crucial to pay attention to everything and everyone around us so as to ensure that there are no accidents or fatalities. So remember to share the road with everyone and everything that has less than 4 wheels, 2 or even 4 legs. We want everyone and everything to be safe.

And as always….

Women Riders & Ye Old Footwear Mystery How Does It Mesh?

Everyone knows the old footwear mystery that deals with women and their shoes, we like to own too many and some of us way….too many, but how does it work with motorcycles? AMERiders knows, women love their footwear, and why wouldn’t they some men do too and we don’t judge. However, there are some of us that will hop on a bike in any type of shoe no matter what it is just because we can’t bear to part with the sweet outfit look we have made for that day. Whether it very dangerous to do so or not.

Old Footwear MysteryIt is a mystery that has surrounded men and women for many years about women’s obsession with shoes. Men and some women who don’t share in this mystery don’t get it, why we have to have more shoes than guys may have underwear. Old Footwear MysteryMen can have a pair of sneakers, a pair of work boots, a pair of motorcycle boots, however, these can be the same , and a good pair of dress shoes and that is all they need. Not so with women, they need shoes to match everything, and still say they have nothing to wear.

Old Footwear MysteryWalking around in stiletto’s is one thing but trying to balance a 500lb or more bike on them is another. They biggest mystery is a woman getting on that motorcycle in these heels but you see it every day whether they are riding with their man or riding their own motorcycle these are not adequate for riding! For someone that loves their shoes aren’t they worried about scuff marks, breaking their heels, orOld Footwear Mystery what is more , dropping their bike because they lose their balance?

How many of you ladies have broken how many pairs of heels from just a normal day? It sucks, then why, do it while riding it can cause an accident and possibly cause a fatality with you or the person that was in the collision with you, plus you could lose a great pair of heels!

Old Footwear Mystery
WOMENS BIKER BOOTS WITH EAGLE AT ANKLE

Wearing proper riding attire is important, and can be much more of a fashion statement than wearing a pair of heels on a boot, leave that to the models for Harley, Indian or other motorcycle manufacturers. A great boot not only makes a statement it protects your ankles and feet from burns from the exhaust pipe, it protects your ankle from sprains and possible breaks if the bike is dropped while standing still and serious injuries in light collisions. The level of protection compared to heels or other shoes that women may want to wear besides boots is far superior as ankle and leg support are designed for impact as well as withstanding abrasions that can occur while riding.

At AMERiders, we want to ensure that our Lady Riders are safe while riding which is why we provide this information. We have a limited selection of boots at this time and will have new stock in shortly.

Motorcycle Safety Tips for your Next Motorcycle Ride!

At AMERiders, we know it’s important to know various different Motorcycle Safety Tips so when you gear up for your next ride you are well-protected &safe. Here in our Second Segment of Gearing up for Spring Motorcycle Riding, we give you some other important tips for your next motorcycle ride, as well as a video from some friends in Northwest Florida.

Motorcycle Safety TipsWith Spring upon us and Summer fast approaching riding season is getting into full swing, and there will be a lot of motorcyclists on the road riding. It is important to keep your understanding and knowledge of Motorcycle Safety up to date at all times to help keep you and your passengers safe and healthy, and better yet even alive. There are many different things that can help keep you, your bike and your passengers safe. We have already given you many of them in our segment on gearing up for Spring Riding, we wanted to add to that knowledge a bit more.

“Respect your Ride” and it will help protect you! This is done by staying on top of maintenance such as ensuring that any Worn Brake Pads or Drive belts are replaced and checking for leaks or potential issues that could cause safety problems. These could be loose wires and other problems as well, always ensure that your tires are properly aired up and your brakes and clutch are working before leaving out on your motorcycle. More importantly, if your ride is not ridden consistently or more than 25 miles a week use a fuel stabilizer.

Motorcycle Safety Tips
Men’s Leather Jacket With Zippered Cuffs

Wearing bright colors helps other drivers and even other motorcycle drivers see and notice you, yes these are two different things because a driver may see you but not notice you. Those are deadly words a motorist can utter to a Police officer ” I just didn’t see them” We are much smaller than a car, truck or SUV so it takes effort on our part to ensure we are not only seen but noticed. So bright colors like this Men’s Leather Jacket With Zippered Cuffs can help other drivers see you.

Motorcycle Safety TipsIf you Look, React and Stay in control then you will always be able to Expect the unexpected. Including and we shouldn’t have to mention this don’t drink and ride. Ensure that you are endorsed in your state for riding a motorcycle. Also, staying up to date on any motorcycle training given near you will also help you with other Motorcycle Safety Tips that may be new or helpful.

Always wearing a motorcycle Helmet that is either DOT approved is important even if your state doesn’t have a motorcycle helmet law, and knowing your state laws for motorcycles is very important. Helmets can prevent approximately 37 % of fatal injuries in drivers and 41% of fatalities in passengers. So be smart and wear your helmet!

Motorcycle Safety Tips
Men’s Hard Knuckle Leather Suede & Textile Gloves

Your hands are important as you need them for just about everything you do in life, and if they are injured they take a long time to heal and your bike will be sitting while they do. So ensure you wear protective gloves while riding as they will help to protect from abrasions and even injuries. Gloves that have knuckle protection like these Men’s Hard Knuckle Leather Suede & Textile Gloves will help to protect your knuckles from serious injury.

So, there you go a bit of extra information to go with your last weeks Motorcycle Safety Tips, and Gearing up for riding, and if you don’t believe what we are telling you is true check, out this video from our friends over at Adventure MotorSports NWF in Pensacola, Florida!

Protect Yourself! Dress for the Slide Not the Ride!

It is important to Protect Yourself when riding on a motorcycle, most of us have heard the saying “Dress for the Slide Not the Ride“, and this saying holds true. When you dress for what is going to happen not for what you are doing, you are more prepared for the eventuality of what might happen even if it never comes. Protect YourselfLike the person that always uses an umbrella even though it is not raining, they are protected from the sun, but if that eventual rain pour comes they are ready for it.  Preparation, as well as Protection, is important and we at AMERiders thought about that when we set up our website as we wanted our customers not only to be happy and satisfied but well protected as well.

April Is Check your Helmet Month! Get Your Lid Checked!

Most Motorcyclists start riding again in April it begins their “riding season”, cool but not cold air and the sun on your face. It is a great time to ride. So why not go ahead and check your lid to ensure it is properly protecting you, which is why April Is Check your Helmet Month! A good helmet is a vital piece of protective wear and, we at AMERiders support wearing a helmet for safety.Check Your Helmet Month

Since riding season is ramping up for all us bikers, it is a good idea during this April’s Check your Helmet Month, to remember these basic tips to ensure your helmet is doing or going to do its job:

  1. FIT IS VITAL
A well-fitting helmet should rest one inch above your eyebrows and shouldn’t roll forward or sideways on your head. To ensure a comfortable fit that doesn’t squeeze too tightly, wear a helmet for 15 minutes before making a final buying decision.Check Your Helmet Month

  2. HELMETS DON’T LAST FOREVER
Over time, exposure to UV rays and the aging of adhesives and components will damage a helmet’s protective qualities. That’s why manufacturers and the SNELL Foundation recommend that helmets be replaced every three to five years, depending on use. Every new Harley-Davidson helmet comes with a “purchased on date” sticker that can be placed under the comfort liner for a quick reference.

  3. KEEP IT CLEAN
A clean and well-cared-for helmet will protect better and longer. Use a mild soap to wash the outer shell and internal liners. Never use solvents or chemicals for cleaning as they can destroy protective coatings.http://www.harley-davidson.com/content/h-d/en_US/dealer-locator.html?hideHDNav=yes

  4. ONE DROP AND IT’S DONE
A helmet is designed for only one impact. Even a small impact may fracture the outer shell or compress the impact-absorbing liner despite no visible damage. If a helmet has been dropped or suffers an impact, it should be immediately replaced.

So get out there and get your lid checked during this April’s Check Your Helmet Month, whether it be yours, or the families make sure they are checked, and if you need a new one AMERiders.com has large selection of DOT and Snell helmets to help keep your lid intact.

Let AMERiders replace your lid if needed during. Check your Helmet Month

Biker Safety Tip 3: Why Wear Protective Gear When Riding

AmeRiders is back with our 3rd installment of our Biker Safety tips we have gathered tips and advice on various aspects of motorcycle riding: about riding corners, braking, looking, safety, etc etc. This weeks tip is about why you should wear protective gear when riding, as it can not only save your skin it can save your life as well.

biker safety
Ladies Solid Genuine Leather Motorcycle Jacket

Wearing Motorcycle safety gear is one of the smartest and most responsible things you can do as an owner and passenger of a motorcycle. It helps to protect the part of the body that it is covering. Everyone knows or knows someone that has been injured or died in a motorcycle accident at some point in their lives. We at AME Riders want to help ensure that our customers have knowledge of Motorcycle Safety which is why we post these tips for you and your passengers.

Biker Safety
Men’s Racer Jacket With Reflective Piping

What should I wear? Helmets, Boots, Jackets, Gloves, Jeans, Chaps, and Boots or a combination of these is suggested. The main and most important is Helmet, Boots, Jacket, Jeans, and Gloves. These will protect your extremities. The helmet is the most important as it will protect your head which can keep from causing brain damage. Jeans will help some but won’t necessarily help keep from having road rash, but they will keep your legs from getting too badly burnt on a pipe from your bike.

Most people do not realize that a crash can cause you to lose up to 1mm of flesh for every 1 mile per hour you are going over, 30 miles per hour. So think about that if you are hit in a 55 mile per hour crash you can lose up to an inch of flesh. 70-80 and that is down to the bone which can cause fatal bone infections if the impact didn’t kill you. This is where a jacket and chaps will come in handy, to lower the chance of road rash and those nasty infections.

Boots help not only to keep your feet from getting too badly mangled in a crash but also help to give better traction in stopping or even taking off on a bike.

Gloves will help you as we stated in a previous post your hands are delicate, and fragile even, and anyone that has either broken, burned or had something happen to a hand knows that not being able to use that hand until it heals really sucks.

Remember it is not that you don’t see them, they may not always see you.
Learning some of these general riding guidelines may help save your life and
the life of your passenger as well.

Let AMERiders.com be your place for all protective biker safety gear

Biker Safety Tip 1: Its All in the Hands…Meaning Gloves Are Important

Biker Safety Tip 1: Its All in the Hands…Gloves Are Important

Why we ladies should wear gloves when riding with our men or driving our own bikes.

Regardless of whether you are riding your own bike or just relaxing behind your man on a great ride on a sunny day, it is important to always wear your gloves. Gloves are important and should never be an option when riding, one of the first things that can hit the ground when a crash or a bike drop happens is your hands. It is the same whenever you trip and fall walking you instinctively put your hands out to protect yourself or even to keep yourself from falling. It is a reflex, however when this reflex happens on a bike and your hands are not covered they can get pretty torn up. Lacerations to palms, fingertips and fingers will occur regardless of how fast the bike was going.

Your hands are delicate, and fragile even, and anyone that has either broken, burned or had something happen to a hand knows that not being able to use that hand until it heals really sucks. So ensuring that your hands are protected by a pair of leather gloves even fingerless ones (which some guys prefer) is important.

Gloves are very important, you can also think of it this way… Anyone that is military or that has a military background will know if you are injured in the leg, of course, you can’t stand but you can still shoot your weapon. Arms and hands that are injured can possibly impair you from firing said weapon, essentially becoming combat ineffective.

There are other things to consider as well as to why gloves are important if you injure your hands. These depend on the severity of your injury as well)

  • you won’t be riding your bike till they heal and that could be a while (can you say bike withdrawal?)
  • Using the bathroom won’t be done by yourself and if so could be messy.
  • Eating without help isn’t easy
  • And using a keyboard or mouse won’t be an option for most either so if you’re in the IT business you would definitely be out of work for a while.

So if you want to not feel helpless or embarrassed wear a pair of gloves while riding, this includes everyone, not just us ladies.

Ladies love to look good and show off their style, which is why at AME Riders we have a selection of Women’s Motorcycle Gloves for ladies to choose from. We have many stylish, and functional pairs of Ladies Natural Leather Gloves regardless of your riding style we have gloves to fit your particular needs.

LET AMERIDERS.COM HELP YOU SHOW OFF YOUR STYLE WITH OUR WOMEN’S MOTORCYCLE GLOVES.
